We now use a digital scanner to take digital impressions in your mouth. The scan involves a series of HD images knit together to create a 3D image of the mouth. The scanning process is totally safe and makes the process of making crowns and partial dentures more pleasant without the need for old fashioned impressions in trays. We can also make partial dentures in transparent milled material instead of metal using this new technology. We can now shade measure for greater accuracy and reliability, HD photos to enhance details. TRIOS shade measurement was found to be more reliable than the human eye in a recent joint university study.
After having an intra-oral scan, the file can be sent directly to a 3D printer where it is then created. We often use this method when patients opt for chrome dentures.
